There is nothing worse than the moment after you finish your rough draft of your novel and you realize you have no idea what to do next. How do you revise? How do you make it better? When do you know it’s ready for publishing or submission?
As a young writer, I didn’t have these fears. I like to fail with all my heart and right out of the gate! Haha just kidding, no one actually likes that, doesn’t change the choices I made or the events that followed. There are few failures like that of your book not hitting the mark. I’ve read a lot of books that shouldn’t have been published yet and they annoyed me. I hated paying my money for something that was so clearly rushed. And now look. I’d done exactly that. It killed me to admit it and it bothers me still as I type this.
I was on a quest to make sure I never did it again and to help other authors avoid the pain of my mistakes. Studying story and learning the tricks of the trade were just what I needed.
